How to Remove a Watermark From Your Own PDF
Watermarks are useful for drafts and branding, but sometimes you need to remove one from a document you created, for example after a draft is approved. Please only remove watermarks from files you own or have permission to change; removing a watermark from someone else's work can break copyright law.
How watermarks are stored
A watermark is usually one of three things: text drawn diagonally across the page, an image or logo repeated on every page, or a graphic object marked as a watermark in the file. Knowing which one you have makes removal easier.
Removing it in the editor
- Open your file in the PDF Editor.
- Hover over the watermark and click it to select it.
- Choose "Delete from this page", or "Delete on all pages" to remove every matching copy.
- Download the cleaned file. A Restore button brings everything back if you remove too much.
When it cannot be selected
If the watermark is part of a scanned page image, it cannot be selected. Use the Whiteout or Grab region tools to cover it.
Adding your own watermark
Add text or upload a logo, set the opacity, pick a position on the page, and apply it to all pages. A low opacity of 15 to 30 percent keeps the page readable.
